Orthodontics
At Di Battista Kornbluth Muller, we offer the latest in orthodontic treatments and technologies to children, teens and adults.
Children
The American Association of Orthodontists and the Quebec Orthodontic Association recommend that all children receive orthodontic screening by age 7. Not all children of this age will require an early intervention. However, some problems may be difficult, if not impossible, to correct later in life. We determine the best moment for an intervention when we diagnose a problem in a young child. It should be noted that in the majority of cases an early treatment (Phase I) will be followed by a treatment with fixed appliances after the eruption of permanent teeth (Phase II). A two-phase treatment will therefore be slightly longer than a single-phase treatment on permanent teeth. In most cases, the advantages of a two-phase intervention will compensate for the inconvenience of a longer treatment. The first phase lasts between 12 and 18 months. We will follow up regularly after this phase and up to the eruption of all permanent teeth. We will then completely reevaluate your child’s occlusion and determine whether it is necessary to pursue a second phase of treatment.
Our experience and expertise enable us to better advise you. Before recommending a treatment, our orthodontists always ask themselves the following question: “What would I do if it were my child?”
Teenagers
Many malocclusions (“crooked teeth”) can be corrected as soon as children lose their baby teeth. We generally consider correction with fixed appliances (commonly known as braces) around age 11 or 12. The ideal age for this treatment depends on the rate at which permanent teeth erupt. Patients experience a growth spurt at this age, which may help correct certain types of problems such as underdeveloped lower jaw (recessed chin). The techniques and appliances that will be used vary according to the problem to be treated and our patients’ specific requests. The Di Battista Kornbluth clinic only uses state-of-the-art materials, appliances, and techniques.
The treatment’s duration depends on several factors such as the responsiveness and severity of the problem. The treatment may be shorter if the patient has undergone a first phase of treatment. We will provide you with a personalized estimate of your orthodontic treatment’s duration during your examination.
A beautiful smile has been shown to contribute to increased self-esteem, a major asset for teens who are preparing their social and professional future. It is also one of the best gifts a parent can give. You can count on us to create the most beautiful smile for your child!
Adults
There is no age limit for orthodontic treatments. With advances in dentistry, a growing number of adults will keep their teeth throughout their life. As life expectancy increases, this means that, for instance, a 50 year old will enjoy a dazzling smile for 40 more years. There are numerous advantages to orthodontic treatment for adults: increased self-esteem, improved dental and gum health, prevention of the premature wear of teeth, etc. Nowadays adults make up a large proportion of our clients. Coupled with our experience, technological advances enable us to correct almost all types of problems among adults.
Today’s appliances are suited to your lifestyle. We can do almost anything with appliances, which may be less visible through the use of clear braces or completely invisible with a system such as Invisalign. We will recommend the type of appliance that is most appropriate for you. An adjustment period is of course to be expected.
Adults who need to replace missing teeth or who have gum problems or broken teeth will require a multidisciplinary treatment approach. In such cases we will collaborate with your dentist in order to establish a global treatment plan from the start.
We leave nothing to chance.
